About
Chimalli shields came in a variety of designs and materials, including hide, plaited palm leaves, and woven cane. They were often decorated with painted images, leatherwork, geometric beaded patterns, and feathers.
Originally from Costa Rica, sisters, Mileyda & Yanelys Mairena, own and operate this beautifully cozy establishment in the outskirts of the DC Petworth neighborhood.
They bootstrapped from their savings to buy a food truck and slowly built their menu and recipes, to now having a proper brick & mortar establishment.
Each with their own strengths and skills, they combine their business savvy and culinary aspirations to deliver authentic flavors from their travels and memories of Mexico as they made their way to the US.
